WHAT IS ART LICENSING?
With art licensing you 'rent' my design (s) as agreed in a legally binding contract, for one or more of your products for a specific period of time, specific territories or globally.
A license can be: exclusive or non-exclusive. In both cases I retain the all rights including copyrights to the artwork. As a licensee you will pay an agreed fee to the licensor (the artist) to use the artwork in accordance with the terms we have mutually agreed on.
HOW DO NON-EXCLUSIVE LICENSES WORK?
A non-exclusive license allows you to use my designs in the production of selected products with a manufacturers of your choice and to sell your finished products for a contractually agreed period of time, product category and territory. I keep ownership of the artwork. The design will still be available to other companies in the same categories as yours.
HOW DO EXCLUSIVE LICENSES WORK?
An exclusive license will give you exclusive use of my designs for a contractually agreed period of time, specified product categories and territory. The design will not be available to other companies in the same categories as yours. However, the design can be licensed to other companies on other product categories not determined in our contract. I keep ownership of the artwork.
WHO OWNS THE COPYRIGHT OF THE ARTWORK?
As the designer I retain all the copyright of the artwork and derivatives at all times, both for exclusive and non exclusive licensing.
HOW DO I CHOOSE ARTWORK?
You can select designs from my CATALOGUE; I can make small adjustments such as changing colour or scale.
Designs on my SPOONFLOWER shop are also available for non-exclusive licensing.
WHAT ARTWORK WILL I RECEIVE?
This will depend on your requirements and agreed terms. For digital print manufacturing, a jpg or png file in either CMYK or/and RGB colour are usually sufficient. For screen print manufacturing you will likely require an Adobe Illustrator file to suit manufacturer requirements.
Some of my designs included blended textured which are more suitable for digital printing as the colour cannot be separated in the traditional way.
DO YOU DO CUSTOM DESIGNS?
If you are looking for something unique for your products I can create custom designs according to your brief or vision and on mutually agreed terms including maximum number of revisions. I work exclusively in Adobe Illustrator.
WHAT IS A LICENSING AGREEMENT
After determining the details of our collaboration, we draw up a clear, legally binding contract establishing the exact terms and conditions.
HOW DO PRICING AND PAYMENT WORK?
Pricing depends on many different factors such as length of contract, number of product categories, territory, complexity of artwork.
You can pay me a one time flat fee, with added design fees or sketching fees, cancellation fees in the case of commissioned products. This option works best for smaller businesses.
There is also a royalty option, an agreed percentage of your gross sales paid either monthly, quarterly or every six months. An initial advance will be charged.
WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY DELIVERABLES?
Once payment has been received and cleared, I will send you the deliverables in accordance with our agreement.
